National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual initiative by ATTSA in the United States aimed at raising awareness about the importance of work zone safety. It acts as an essential reminder for both the public and professionals in construction, transportation, and civil engineering to prioritize safety in and around road construction zones.

According to WorkZone Safety's figures, 891 people lost their lives in work zones in 2022, and 94 highway workers died on road construction sites across the United States. These tragic statistics highlight a need for heightened awareness and stricter safety practices in temporary work zones.

The NWZAW theme this year, "Respect the Zone So We All Get Home", focuses on fostering mutual respect between drivers and workers. Work zones are ever-changing, high-risk areas where traffic and construction activity intersect, posing potential hazards and dangers to both motorists and workers.

Respecting the zone means:

• Following reduced speed limits

• Complying with signage and barriers
